HanBowl - Korean Language & Culture Festival
What is HanBowl?
HanBowl is an annual Korean language and culture festival where Korean language learners from around the world showcase their skills in Korean and K-Culture. Students studying Korean as a foreign language in American public and private schools submit creative works and celebrate both traditional and contemporary Korean culture. It is held every April in partnership with the Korean Language Teachers' Association of the Greater Washington D.C. Region (KLTADC).
Core Values
- Creative Expression - Students express their knowledge of Korean language and culture through original creative works shared globally
- Tradition Meets Modern - Celebrates both traditional Korean culture and modern Hallyu including K-POP and K-Drama
- Immersive Korean Experience - Provides participants with an immersive and authentic Korean cultural experience
- Lifelong Community - Forms a lifelong community of Korean language learners who stay connected
Event History
- 2021 - First HanBowl held — Korean language learner creative works competition begins
- 2022 - Second HanBowl held; winners selected and inducted into Hall of Fame
- 2023~ - Established as annual event; expanded partnership with Arirang USA Community
